CHESS LORE

Privacy

Chess Lore has no accounts, no sign-in, no profiles and no other players. Your game is saved on your device and stays there. This page says what little does leave it, and why.

Who is responsible

The data controller is Federico Vellani, VAT / tax code 04239730361, Via Giorgio Bortolamasi 11, Carpi (MO), Italy. Write to gradlyforsup@gmail.com.

What stays on your device

Everything you would call “your game”: the name you chose, the rating you declared, where you are in the valley, who you have beaten, your fiorini, your settings. It is written to the device’s own storage and it is never uploaded. We cannot read it, and neither can anyone else.

Deleting the app deletes it. There is no cloud copy, so there is also nothing for us to hand over, correct, or lose.

What leaves the device

Two things, and only if they apply to you.

  • If you buy something, RevenueCat — our purchase provider — receives a pseudonymous identifier for the installation and the receipt of what you bought. It is what makes “Restore” work when you change phone. It is not linked to your name, because we never ask for one.
  • Diagnostics: if the app crashes or runs badly, technical information about the failure, the device model and the name of the screen you were on reaches us through Expo’s reporting. It tells us that a screen was slow to open; it does not tell us what you did on it. No content of your game is in it — no moves, no games, no progress.

What we do not do

We do not track you. Nothing the app collects is combined with data from other companies or used to follow you across apps or websites, which is the definition Apple uses — this is why the app never shows a tracking prompt and declares no tracking domains.

There is no advertising in the game, no third-party SDK reading your activity, and nothing is ever sold. The only usage data we see is which screen a performance measurement came from — never your moves, your games, or your progress.

Why we are allowed to

The purchase data is processed to perform the contract you enter into when you buy something (art. 6.1.b GDPR): without it the purchase could not be restored. The diagnostics rest on our legitimate interest in shipping an app that does not crash and does not stutter (art. 6.1.f), and are kept to the minimum that serves that purpose.

How long it is kept

Purchase records last as long as the purchase does — a non-consumable unlock is for ever, and so is the ability to restore it; a pack of fiorini is a receipt for something already delivered. Diagnostics are kept for up to twelve months and then deleted.

Children

Chess Lore collects nothing that identifies anyone, of any age. It has no chat, no user-generated content and no advertising, and the age rating shown on each store is the one that applies.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold, have it corrected or deleted, receive it as a file, or object to the processing. Write to gradlyforsup@gmail.com. In practice there is very little to ask about: the game itself is on your device, and what we have is a receipt and a crash log with no name on it.

You also have the right to complain to the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali).
